The Sweetest Things

Yes, I know before 6 o'clock in the morning and I should really be getting my rest (and I will, trust me, a few emails wear me out anymore), but while I'm up I thought I'd get some of my early impressions as a knitter/chemotherapy patient before chemonesia strikes:

  • Of all the pokes and prods and pinches I've gotten throughout this whole staging process, including the biopsy and the big-ass bruise I got during my heart-scan injections, the worst boo-boo was the glucose test prick on my right index finger. Take my advice: ask them to poke you somewhere you don't poke yourself a thousand times a day.
  • Bring whatever you want to knit into treatment, but keep something simple for the days afterwards. It took me two days of serious concentration (and falling asleep) to finish up the toe of my cousin's sock (pictures to come once daylight comes about and I'm awake again).
  • I am so glad that the HusBoy took me birthday yarn-shopping early this year. I didn't spend too much and it's nice that I got to have a little fun and can fondle my new purchases for a bit when I'm to tired to actually knit them up.
  • I'm just lucky to have the HusBoy; I can't imagine trying to do this on my own. If this ever happens to any of you, get a great team around you: loved ones, doctors, support staff, etc. I could not have made it so far so comfortably without being carried.

I've got more, but I'm going to try to get some rest: HusBoy wants to see if we can get to the coffee shop today. I may spend an hour on their couch, but it will be nice to be outside for a bit.

Very practical advice. I'm glad that you're doing well -- if very tired. I'm sensing a lot of garter stitch in your future.
