I have a question: Why didn't any of you nice folks tell me I've been knitting backwards?!?
I cast on my Socktoberfest Pomatomus' and I seen this abbreviation I've never seen before.

I couldn't find it in my new Knitting Answer book, so I hit the Knitting Help website and looked at the video explaining it. It turns out that I always knit through the back of loop. I then checked out the how to knit video, it looks kinda screwy to me, but it makes a knit stitch...
I feel like such a weenie... What do I do now?

Ok this was SO ME about 1 year ago! I had been knitting twisted stitches for a year before Rhonda in our SnB pointed it out. Duh!
You're doing (at least a variation of) something called Combination or Eastern Uncrossed knitting.

Check that out and see if it helps you. You may want to change to a more traditional way of working stitches, or you may not - it's your knitting!
Hi, I'm the author of the Knitting Answer Book, and it actually does cover this. Take a look at pages 58 to 61. I don't have my book with me right now, so I can't tell you all the pages, but there's also some info on dealing with "non-standard" stitches in the section on decreases later in the book.
As soon as you recognize whether your stitches are on the needle the "standard" way and whether or not they're actually twisted in your finished work, you can do it any way you like. It's just helpful to know whether it's different than the person writing your knitting patterns expects you to be doing.
