SF Sock

Thanks to all for the wonderful wishes. The wedding was a lovely blur; when I get some pictures I will make sure to share them. In the meantime I do have honeymoon pics!

The sock was dreadfully neglected the first few days of the trip (I was tired, honest!), but San Francisco is a sock town:

Sock Market at Pier 39, the which has to be on of the biggest tourist trap in SF. Not to be missed, but not to be the focus of your entire trip, either.

The sock was particularly delighted with the sea lions. The sea lions, on the other hand, did not seem all that impressed.

At the nearby Cannery (Del Monte Square) , there was another sock-friendly site:

It was closed, but we knit there anyway.

I also knit all over the City Lights Bookstore, the beatniks hardly minded at all. The sock felt very existential.

Our faboo hotel, the Queen Anne, was a delightful B&B littered with antiques. If you're headed up to SF and would like a quiet, delightful experience I would highly recommend this spot.

The sock had a wonderful time. It enjoyed some wine in the room...

and even played a little grand piano in the lounge.

The knitting content was not limited to sock knitting, but Blogger won't let me upload my goodies from ArtFibers. If no one has picked up the cone of black camel, from the discount shelves, I might need to pick it up....

Home Again, Home Again

Yep, we made it back from our honeymoon late last night. I'll do a big ol' post about San Francisco in the next few days, but for now I'd really like to go back to bed...

Thanks to all of our well-wishers; I'm still trying to get through all the email that piled up while I was out of town. I was planning a big contest on the blog to pick out Boy's new name, since we're now, uhm, married, but we came across the perfect name last night.

Say "Hola" to HusBoy:

Don't worry, I'll think of something fun for us all to do!

Jaywalking to San Francisco

I couldn't keep from casting on a new sock for long, so I'm finally knitting me some Jaywalkers. The yarn is Daffodil, one of the discontinued Knitpicks colorways. The colorway is a little difficult to describe, so I'll quote Boy on this one: "It's not as ugly as I thought it would be."

This seems a suitable project to smuggle... uh... sneak on my flight to San Francisco Monday.

In school news, I am prepared for my midterm tomorrow morning. Woo-hoo!

In wedding news, I am getting married in 47 hours and 10 minutes and my wedding shawl

still looks like this. I'm not sure even a 5-hour Knit-'til-You-Drop session at the yarn shop tonight will help. Not that I won't try...

The Sun is a Mass of Incandescent Gas...

Well, you can see how well the studying is going. The house is filthy, I've suddenly got a thousand interviews, and I'm getting married in, oh, TEN DAYS!!! What's a girl to do?

Apparently, finish up a pair of size 13 cabled socks. Say "hello" to Boy's Holiday socks, knit in Mountain Colors Bearfoot, Juniper colorway, on size 2 dpn's. This yarn has been a joy to work with, it's soft and solid and just heaven.

I get a little edgy when knitting Boy socks. I look at the skein and wonder, "Is there enough here to cover Boy's big monkey feet?" Well, in case you're wondering if a skein of Bearfoot will be enough for a good sized pair, this is what's left:

Trust me, there's plenty.

I Should Be Studying, BUT...

I have not cracked my textbook in the longest time. This is what I have been doing while I should be studying:

Got my first parking ticket ever. I really need to keep track of what day it is.

Piling little heaps of sugar-free chocolate covered almonds into tulle circles and tying it together with ribbon. I've officially strayed over the edge of reason; thank goodness this whole thing will be over next-next weekend!

I've been eating lots of chocolate. Chocolate Pecan Torte is soooo delicious, not to mention Passover-friendly.

Look! Half a shawlette! I'm finding myself a little disappointed with the pattern, which is not speeding things along. I can just hope it looks better once it's blocked. Boy's prediction looks like it will be coming true, I will probably be spending my Knit 'til You Drop night slaving away on this piece. Otherwise, with a little more than a week to go, this is totally not going to get done in time for the wedding.

These, on the other hand, just might make the deadline. I know they look way too skinny for boy's big honkin' feet, but it's the rib'n'cable pattern that makes them look that way, not a complete lack of gauge-sense. I had a momentary brain-fart that made me think I could sell this sock pattern, but I came to my senses and will probably post this easy-peasy adaptation after we get back from ArtYarns, uh, I mean, from the honeymoon...

Boy likes his socks low, so I will probably have enough Mountain Colors left over for a matching kippah. Speaking of which, here is a link to the pattern I used for the last one. It is a very easy pattern to follow; if I had taken some initiative I could have outfitted the entire wedding with kippahs from my stash. Eh, there's always the next family thing...

Oh, and I've been trying to figure out who this person is. It's a bummer that they're not coming, but who are they?

In Action

Just a quick post to let y'all see the kippah in action:

I am so proud of this project!

Just in case anyone was wondering why my house is so dirty, here is Stinker "helping" me dust.

Her objection has been duly noted.
