Mission UnKnittable

Good evening, Ms. Wounded.

Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to complete the following knitting projects:

This photo features the unassembled pieces of the Felted Birdhouse Purse, currently being held hostage by a Stinker-kitty:

Felt, assemble, and embellish this project and send it off to it's designated Tote Exchange recipient.

This photo features a toe-up sock, intended for one beloved Boy. Attempt to knit the rest of this sock and its mate before the needles decompose. This part of the mission will be especially arduous, as the subject's feet are especially huge.

This photo features four balls of yarn, purchased for someone's birthday a few days ago.

This next photo features the shawl from Interweave Knits Spring 2007 that is to be made from said yarn. Complete this project before you walk down an aisle in a ridiculously over-priced dress.

Your acrylic will self-destruct in approximately 5,000 years. Good luck, Knitter.

Stashonomics

In order to complete some projects there has been a teeny-tiny bit of yarn acquisition going on. Since KFYS 2007 (for me, at least) is all about cumulative stash usage, I thought I'd go through and give some examples of Stashonomics in action:

The Heart Tank:

Originally had 3.75 balls of K1C2 Angora Soft. Traded 2 balls of stash yarn for 1 additional ball of Angora Soft. 3.75 + (2 - 1) = 4.75 net balls of yarn out of the stash + 1 nifty tank once it's done.

The Felted Birdhouse Purse:

Originally had 5 balls of WotA in various colors. Purchased 2 balls of Hush WotA for main body. Though this project will not use all the yarn involved, I have been inspired to knit up another leetle handbag to felt to use up the rest of the goodness. 5 - 2 = 3 net balls of yarn out of the stash + 2 gifts once completed.

Boy's Holiday Socks:

Originally had 1 skein Mountain Arts Bearfeet. This yarn is so faboo that I will most likely end up buying another skein for myself on my birthday next weekend, so it's probably a wash. 1 -1 = 0 net skeins of yarn out of the stash + 2 pairs of socks and my first pair of designed socks. I am terribly proud of how these socks are coming out, especially since I designed them while coming home on the train one afternoon.

Wedding Stuff:

We found the bestest place to hold the wedding ceremony, but it looks like it might be cold on an April afternoon. In order to combat this eventuality, I was thinking of knitting myself an I Do shrug. Originally possess no white yarn, so if I go through with it I'll be adding yarn to the queue. 0 - 9 = 9 net skeins of yarn added to the stash + my sanity, modesty, and warm arms. Some things just don't fit into the Stashonomics model...

Overwhelmed

Hellooooo! Anybody out there? My posts have not been showing up on my Yahoo homepage, so I'm not sure if anyone knows I've been updating the blog or not...
I had a hard time figuring out what order to put all the things that are overwhelming me at the moment. Meaningless wedding crap first, or the truly touching thing I received today.

Let's go with touching first:

Naomi of Knits in Church sent me a box out of the blue today. Inside was this ball of silk she spun on the spindle I traded her. She spun it with silk and good wishes for Boy and I after the hard few months we've gone through. This is what I've found so amazing about our online knitting community; I have run into so many absolutely wonderful people all over the country. Thank you for your kind thoughts and gorgeous spinning Naomi, it touched both of our hearts immensely!

Knitting-wise, I am reaching project overload. The mess you see above will be a felted birdhouse purse for my ITE3 pal (trust me, she'll love it!). That added to everything else on the WIP list, and you can see how nothing is getting done. You may notice that the chuppah is still on the list. Hey, didn't I say that the crocheting was done?

Yep, there's weaving too. Lots of weaving. Lots of tedious, boring weaving. I think I figured out a good way to get it done, but it's going to take a movie or two before I can get this project really and truly into the finished item list.

I ordered my first wedding thingy with the wedding date on it (one of those engraved signature photo mats), which completely freaked me out. I will also most likely be making all the wedding arrangements (places, dates, etc.) and ordering invites this week. Everything is suddenly falling into place and it's absolutely terrifying.

And the runner up in the Your-Thumbs-Aint-So-Special contest?

Stinker picks things up with her claws as if they were fingers. She usually does this with pens, but I caught her with a bell tonight. Her adopted sister used to do something similar with french fries, but she is a little piggy. Stinker is just plain clever.

Finishing

The camera is all out of batteries, so you'll just have to take my word for it that the wristwarmers and the crocheting on the chuppah is done. To be quite honest, any pictures I would whip out would look a whole lot like their previous pictures.

I am now working on a design for Boy's holiday socks. This is my first try at designing something that has to fit someone, so wish me luck!

I'll be back soon with some sort of pictures, promise!

Distractions

I have been knitting lately, but there has been no perceptible progress in any of my WIP's. So, in lieu of nothing, may I distract you with yarn?

My KR Gift Exchange Angel ClaireG sent me this faboo red sock yarn. In case anyone is wondering, KnitPicks' Gloss is super yummy-soft. The best part?

I have three skeins of brown that look splendid with the red. Hmm, what can I do with six skeins of wool/silk sock yarn?

And now, for my final distraction:

It may look like she's sleeping, but she's actually guarding the stash. Isn't she she best?

An Embarrassment of Riches

You should never speak poorly of anyone in a public forum, because you never know what the universe has up her sleeve... I know I didn't exactly bash my KR swap buddy, but I still feel bad for thinking she had forgotten me. Turns out that she was just out of touch for a few weeks... Anyway, she loved the gift box I sent her, and look what I got from her this morning!

I was just thinking this morning that it was high time I tried out some Cherry Tree Hill sock yarn (it was the design contest, guess the promotion worked!). There's also some Noro Silk Garden in my favorite colors, some jasmine tea, and the chocolate I eat until someone takes it away from me. Thank you Erika, these are all my favorite things!

I let ClaireG, my super-duper angel, know what was going on. You know what that sweet woman did? She made this:

my first wedding present. I am enraptured. I can't think of anything a newly married couple needs more (well, a newly married couple in which one is a cable-obsessed knitter). If anyone knows Claire in real life, give her a big old hug for me? And one for yourself too, I'm not stingy!

FO Incoming!

I finally finished the first F&F beaded wristwarmer last night!

It was not time consuming at all, I just haven't been knitting like I used to... It's so hard to get in commute knitting when you're the one driving! It is comforable, warm, and pretty. Once I get a chance to knit for myself again, I am so making myself a pair of both. Hmm, I have some Cherry Tree Hill that would be perfect =)
